Sports Festival on the Shores of the Bosporus

The Bonn-Rhine-Sieg University of Applied Sciences was the only German university to be invited to the international sports festival carried out by Bogazici University. In May, 30 students rose up to the challenge in tennis, volleyball, football, table-tennis and badminton.

The Sports Committee of the renowned Bogazici University organised its international sports festival on the shores of the Bosporus for the thirtieth time. From 18 to 30 May, students from all over the world met to compete against each other in a total of 14 disciplines. For the first time, 30 students from the Bonn-Rhine-Sieg University of Applied Sciences also took up the challenge in the disciplines tennis, volleyball, football, table-tennis and badminton. Participation was only made possible with financial support from the Heads of our University, who also ultimately reinforced and emphasised the importance of our existing good contacts with our Turkish partners in this way. Furthermore, the cross-border sports exchange is a jigsaw piece in the internationalisation strategy pursued by the Bonn-Rhine-Sieg University of Applied Sciences.

True, from the point of view of sports, the University team with athletes from all departments only won one bronze medal in table-tennis; nevertheless, their participation in this event was a wonderful experience for the 30 participants and a great success for the entire University. Becoming familiar with such an international sports event and the exchange with students from all over the world are likely to give a boost to our University's sports activities: while still in Istanbul, our students already obtained two additional invitations to championships in Lebanon and Morocco.
